The last GW scale photovoltaic company in Europe has filed insolvency and even if Frank Asbeck is able to save a small part of the company, more than 1000 employees will loose their jobs and investments on the order of hundreds of millions of Euros will be destroyed. Where is the firestorm of the green party? Where is the coverage in the news? We are loosing one of our most important industries for the future and nobody is taking notice! What a shame.

Greenpeace Energy produces Hydrogen from excess wind power
which is fed into the German gas network. Approximately 1% of the gas delivered to customers is already based on electrolysis, more to come. This is the technology needed to balance intermittent solar and wind power.

The company RWE has been recently accused by a farmer from Peru to pay compensation for damage caused by climate change. RWE is one of Europes most prominent emitters of CO2 and is running numerous coal fired power plants. Read more in German here

We are very excited about a new solar cell efficiency record which we have recently achieved with my team at Fraunhofer ISE. We used a conventional silicon solar cell and added 0.005 mm of GaInP and GaAs to form a tandem solar cell which converts sunlight into electricity at an efficiency of 30%. The best Si solar cell today converts sunlight at 26% efficiency. See press release here
